Emission regulations have served as a final nail to the coffin for numerous ICE nameplates. Porsche’s new Cayenne Turbo GT is one of many models to be barred in the UK but it’s said that the Stuttgart firm is developing a plug-in-hybrid workaround.

Earlier this year, Porsche refreshed its Cayenne lineup and drove its performance SUV moniker to new heights with the range-topping Turbo GT offering. Bearing a familiar twin-turbo V8 delivering 485 kW of power to all four of its meaty wheels.
Affording the super SUV with a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in the low three-second range, its horizon-warping grunt does have one drawback; emissions. The 2023 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT has an emission rating of 271 g/km. To put this into perspective, the UK’s emissions target for cars in 2020 was 95 g/kg and that figure along with the regulations has become more stringent since then.
It seems though that despite its rowdiest high-rising offering being barred in the UK, Porsche is rumoured to have a plug-in hybrid variant in the works that may be the most powerful Cayenne model to date. There’s no official confirmation from Porsche on power figures, but speculation suggests an output north of 500 kW and 900 N.m! Additionally, it’s said to utilise the same hybrid power train accessories found in the E-Hybrid model.

With no official announcement from the esteemed firm, we can only speculate that its appearance at this year’s IAA Munich could be where the firm will debut this electrified Cayenne offshoot.
