Fiat has been highlighted as the volume front-runner in the Stellantis Stables after selling over 645 000 units globally in the first half of 2023, or 10% more than the year before.

Spearheading this success for the automaker is their market leadership in three countries, namely; Brazil at 22%, Turkey at 18,2%, and Italy at 12,8%. In doing so, the automaker has cemented itself in a global leadership position, which can be greatly accredited to Olivier Francois, the CEO and CMO Global of Stellantis.
In the first half of 2023, Fiat emerged as the leading Stellantis Brand in terms of volume, selling 645 000 units worldwide, which represents a 10% increase compared to the previous year. Notably, more than 50% of Fiat’s total sales occurred outside its domestic region, a feat unparalleled in the automotive sector.

Fiat’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility is evident with the success of its New 500, a 100% electric global icon, now established as the number one electric city car in Europe. Moreover, the company is set to lead the path to electrification with the forthcoming launch of the Fiat Topolino and the New Fiat 600e, both based on shared Stellantis platforms.
Fiat’s strength and uniqueness are attributed to its well-balanced geographical presence, earning a 14,1% market share in South America. The Fiat Strada, a Brazilian-produced unicab bakkie, also ranks as the second-best-selling vehicle in the country of its origin as well as being the first choice as a light commercial vehicle. This begs the question of whether South Africa should see the lucrative model join the Italian firm’s lineup locally.

On the European front, Fiat managed 271 800 units sold out of its total globally in the first six months of 2023. The brand remains a longstanding leader in the city-car market and enjoys absolute leadership in Italy, with 12,8%. While the Fiat Panda remains the most popular car on the market, it is the New 500 that is the best-selling Stellantis BEV in Europe suggesting a promising start to city cars ahead of industry adoption of the zero-emissions configuration.
Its other successful market exists in the MEA Region. In Turkey, Fiat managed an 18,2% market share courtesy of the Fiat Tipo, which is also the best-selling vehicle in the country. Along with signing a momentous accord for production in South Africa, the automaker is also expanding in the north of the continent with plans of reintroducing itself in Algeria and producing the 500 Hybrid and Doblò in the country at the Tafraoui – Oran plant by the end of 2023.
