Porsche’s electric rendition of the Macan has been undergoing testing on public roads for nearly two years. The anticipated culmination of this process will occur next year with the official unveiling of the vehicle but we have caught a glimpse of the EV Macan barely clothed in its clandestine camo in its recent outings to get a better understanding of its visual proposal.

These latest images offer an unparalleled perspective on the Macan EV, spotlighting its front fascia adorned with headlights reminiscent of the Taycan. Though a few small sections of the lighting clusters are concealed by black tape, the overall front end is prominently exposed. The lower fascia boasts a trapezoidal-shaped bumper extending into a lower bumper diffuser, with additional cornering lights positioned at the bumper’s edges.
The rear end displays slightly more coverage in the form of black tape over the taillights, which appear to be linked by a central LED bar. While some camouflage still lingers on the bumper, the imitation exhaust pipes that once adorned it have been removed – these were purely from the ICE-powered bodied version. In addition, there are several photos distinctly capture the rear wheels turning in the opposite direction to the front wheels which means the SUV will likely be equipped with four-wheel steering for improved manoeuvrability and handling stability under 80 km/h.

Under its surface, the newest silent Porsche shares the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture shared with Audi products. In its most potent iteration, the EV Macan is set to deliver an impressive 450 kW and 1 000 N.m courtesy of its dual-motor setup. For those who prefer traditional combustion-powered Porsches, it’s reassuring to know that the conventional Macan will remain available for an extended period.
Few other details are available but considering every EV Macan on offer will feature a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery, it may offer a range just shy of the Taycan and its 505 km since it boasts 93 kWh less capacity.
As for the debut of the electric Macan, Porsche has set its sights on a full unveiling in 2024 with Porsche South Africa only alluding to its arrival sometime next year. Will the EV Macan which promises to be one of the sportiest in the segment be able to win local buyers over from its ICE counterpart? Time will tell.
